Established in 1971, Murgaon Education Society had its main objective of providing educational facilities primarily in Vasco-da-Gama and then to spread itself elsewhere. It was a quest to facilitate the intellectual development of those who wish to endeavor on the long journey of knowledge. Hence the first educational institution was set up by Murgaon Education Society in 1972 with the start of M.E.S. College of Arts and Commerce at Vasco-da-Gama, presently situated at Dabolim Hill, Zuarinagar. This college was also the first composite Arts and Commerce college from Goa affiliated to the University of Bombay and then to Goa University.
The Higher Secondary School, was the next stride in the vast magnitude of education and in the year 1975 with the Arts and Commerce stream the journey of the school commenced in the port city of Vasco. The obvious branching was the XI Science stream which in 1976 was added as a career option. And to make the circle complete, was the introduction of the Vocational Stream (in 1988) – six courses were introduced, which was a privilege enjoyed by Murgaon Education Society’s Higher Secondary School along with a few other higher secondary schools of Goa. Finally, in the year 1991 all the streams of the higher secondary were shifted to Zuarinagar, where it is currently located.
From a desire to impart education and to create a learning centre in Vasco town, it is now a centre for learning for the whole of Murmugao taluka besides many of those who travel to seek and pursue their academic excellence. Although the faculties offered have increased, care has been taken to provide the students all the necessary facilities, thus giving the child a chance to enhance not just his/her academic growth but also giving them the opportunity and recourses for an all-round development.
